Forging a Common Agenda for Ecology and Paleoecology.
- Authors
Flessa, Karl W.; Jackson, Stephen T.
- Abstract
The article discusses the report "The Geological Record of Ecological Dynamics: Understanding the Biotic Effects of Future Environmental Change," released by the U.S. National Research Council. The report urges that scientific agencies respond to ecological problems with a strong investment of funding. The report recommends the establishment of a program of geologic time ecological research projects based on the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) model at the National Science Foundation. The integration of geohistorical data in LTER projects is also suggested by the report.
