- Abstract
Introduction: During adolescence occurs several changes in the body and one of them is the increase in adipose tissue deposition. Obesity is characterized by an excess of body fat, and is classified as a chronic disease. For the diagnosis of this disease, measurements of skinfolds are quite useful, including the most used in adolescents are the tricipital and subscapularis, because if have reference standards and have a high correlation with total body fat. Aim: To relate the triciptal skinfold and subscapular with the level of physical activity among adolescent students of Rio Verde, Goiás. Materials and Methods: This is an analytical and cross-sectional study. Data were collected using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) - short version in 1229 adolescent students of both sexes, aged between 15 and 17 years, the city of Rio Verde, Goiás. Results and Discussion: observed that at skinfolds triciptal, subscapularis and the sum of them showed up higher in female adolescents. The correlation between level of physical activity, folds triciptal, subscapularis and the sum, presented negative, thus statistically significant. Conclusion: Based on the presented results it can be concluded that there was an inverse relationship between physical activity level with skinfolds tricipital, subscapularis, and also between the sum of these two skinfolds for adolescent males, however, the correlation it was not observed for female subjects.
