- Abstract
Growth of a child is marked from infancy to adolescence in which they are full of energy and are playful. As they grow up they engage in various contact sports wherein they are prone to dental injuries such as avulsion, fracture, and laceration. Avulsion is highly relevant in pediatric dentistry due to its peak prevalence in children. If the tooth is not preserved, the function and esthetics would be hampered leading to low confidence and inferiority complex in a child; hence, it demands urgent intervention to enhance the possibility of tooth preservation. Primary prevention in health education focuses on preventing traumatic injuries before they occur. It involves raising awareness and implementing specific measures such as using habit breaking appliances for deleterious habits and use of mouth guards when engaging in contact sports to reduce the risk of dental injuries. It mainly includes educating the parents and the general dentists but as "modified pedodontic triangle" includes "society" as care takers of a child we should also focus on educating school teachers, physical educators, and pediatricians which play a vital role in a child's life. The most important step in preserving an avulsed tooth includes storing it in a viable storage media and reporting to dental clinic within the "golden period of 30 min." In conclusion, pediatric dentists play a pivotal role in educating care takers regarding emergency dental management, focusing on storage media and preventive strategies to safe guard and restore dental health in children effectively.
