- Abstract
"These Ragged Edges: Histories of Violence along the U.S.-Mexico Border" is a book edited by Andrew J. Torget and Gerardo Gurza-Lavalle that provides a chronological overview of violence along the U.S.-Mexico border from the early nineteenth century to the present. The book focuses mainly on the Texas-Mexico border and offers important insights into the forces that shape border violence. The collection is divided into four parts, each examining different aspects of violence, including livestock theft, state power, state-sanctioned violence, and the impact of drugs and migration. One criticism of the book is the lack of a conclusion that summarizes the findings and provides a clear direction for future research. Additionally, there is an issue of one author not properly citing another scholar's work, which can hinder future scholarship.
