- Abstract
Balancing food with energy demands is of paramount importance for maintaining health and especially for sports. Triathlon athletes need this balance for their physical needs to be effective. Objective: Description of dietary practices in triathlon practitioners, whose eating habits were compared with energy expenditure. The values of energy expenditure (GE) and food consumption (AC) were considered. Materials and Methods: 6 male and 3 female athletes participated in the research, triathlon sprint, 15 ± 2 months experience, and with daily 90-minute workouts per session. The analyzes of the evaluations were measured by the software program SAPAF Adult - Physical Activity Evaluation and Prescription System, version 4.0. The interviews were conducted according to the recommendations of the collaborating nutritionist in the research and according to the software, being typed on a sulfite sheet for the athletes to respond. The data were analyzed with the paired t test, with a significance of p=0.05. Results: As a standard behavior, there was a CA lower than the GE in Kcal, and in practically every collection day this pattern was maintained, with only two exceptions, however, no statistically significant differences were found when analyzed between days and between genders. Conclusion: It is necessary to understand the satisfactory nutritional demand of the population and mainly of athletes, elaborating a careful food planning; that is, there is a need for food re-education, thus influencing the physical performance and health of the population in question.
