- Abstract
The article discusses a study which evaluated the use of GeneSearch Breast Lymph Node (BLN) assay in rapidly evaluating sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) in breast cancer to reduce the need for second surgery for auxiliary lymph node dissection (ALND). The study compares the assay with routine post-operative histopathologic examinations such as hemotoxylin and cosin (H&E) and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining. Conclusions suggest that BLN assay has a higher accuracy for diagnosing lymph node metastases and can prevent secondary surgery for completing an ALND.
