Burnet, chick embryos, viruses, clones and quantitative biology.
- Authors
Doherty, Peter C.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the working life of virologist Macfarlane Burnet. He considers most of Burnet's work to be aimed at understanding infectious processes. An overview of Burnet's involvement with the chick embryo as a tool for dissecting virus pathogenesis and immunity is offered. He narrates Burnet's influence on his life. He believes that Burnet left enough documentation for the enthusiastic scholars. He appreciates Brunet's intellectuality that led to clonal selection theory.
