- Abstract
The article cites a study that investigates the prevalence and intensity of hemoparasites among the penguins and flightless cormorants in the Galápagos Islands. The researchers gathered samples between August 2003 and February 2005 from 298 penguins and 380 cormorants. Results of the study indicated a 42% and 13.8% prevalence of microfilariae in cormorants and penguins, respectively. Moreover, a discussion on the morphological characteristics of the microfilariae is also presented.
