- Abstract
Purpose: In this study, it is aimed to find out whether carbon emissions have an effect on the growth of the Balkan countries and Türkiye, and if so, in what direction and in what intensity this effect is.. Methodology: In this study, the effects of carbon emissions and renewable energy production on the growth of Türkiye and 12 Balkan countries were analyzed. In the study, Spatial Autocorrelation Analysis was performed in order to reveal spatial interactions. The Pooled Least Squares Method was used to examine the factors affecting growth. Findings: According to the results of the study, it can be said that the negative effect of renewable energy on growth in the Balkan countries is due to the fact that renewable energy is still in the development stage and its share in production is still low. The limited investments in the renewable energy sector cause the renewable energy sector to spread slowly. Originality: Using spatial panel models as a different method in the study and the fact that the scope is not limited to Türkiye but also covers all the Balkan countries constitute the original value of this study.
