- Authors
Kaplan, Rachel M.; Kim, Susan
- Abstract
The article comments on a study which examined the risk of cardiac tamponade as a complication of transseptal catheterizaton. It suggests the use of needle-tipped wire to prevent risk of cardiac tamponade but warns against complications related to catheter or sheath positioning. Also noted are the expense of using needle-tipped wire to hospital administration and significance of predictors like patient's age and redo procedures to procedural planning and selective use of surgical equipment.
