- Abstract
The article examines the role of subcutaneous adipose tissue in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance. It suggests that the prevalence of obesity in the U.S. has been increasing and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality and decreased life expectancy. The article mentions several studies which demonstrated a strong association between obesity and insulin resistance.
