- Abstract
Fifty-five samples of marine insects collected in the Maldives between 1998 and 2013 were identified and analysed. Five species previously recorded from the Maldives, namely Halobates micans and H. formidabilis (Gerridae), Hermatobates djiboutensis (Hermatobatidae), Halovelia convexa (Veliidae), and Pontomyia natans (Chironomidae), are reported here, with numerous new locality records. In addition, the open-ocean Halobates germanus was recorded for the first time and the endemic Halovelia convexa was found in northern Maldives, extending its previously known distribution.
