- Abstract
Laryngeal conservation surgery includes open and endoscopic approaches to address select malignant laryngeal lesions to achieve local control while preserving function. In the most recent and largest study to date, Joo et al. reported on 111 patients undergoing supracricoid partial laryngectomy over a 15-year period.[4] After categorizing patients based upon preoperative PFT, they found that FEV1/FVC was weakly correlated with the risk of immediate postoperative pulmonary complications on univariate analysis ( I p i = 0.04). An early retrospective study examined PFT in patients undergoing partial laryngectomy.[2] Surgical candidacy was initially determined if patients were able to climb two flights of stairs unaided without pausing.
