- Abstract
The article presents a study that determines the cell death mechanisms underlying 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+)-induced dopamine neuron degeneration. It used Caenorhabditis elegans as a model because several mutant alleles related to apoptotic cell death and necrotic cell death genes are available in it. After incubating worms in various concentrations of MPP+, results indicate that necrosis contributes to MPP+-induced dopamine neuron degeneration.
