Ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane block for neonatal abdominal surgery.
- Authors
FREDRICKSON, M. J.; SEAL, P.
- Abstract
The article describes four cases of neonates who underwent abdominal procedures with intraoperative and early postoperative analgesia via a transversus abdominis (TAP) plane regional block. A SonoSite MicroMaxx portable ultrasound was used in performing all blocks. Included is a chart that summarizes clinical details of neonates receiving TAP blockade. Primary closure of a large gastroschisis was performed in one of the neonates. Particular focus is given to the importance of ultrasound imaging in performing TAP injections.
