- Abstract
Preserving marine resources plays an important role in an existing economy since the majority of the occupancy on the earth is occupied by marine land and we will be unable to depend only on the 30% of land resources for our habitat. In the existing situation due to this distinct ratio, human tends to worse the marine resources in one or the other form with chemical contaminants and extracted wastes from the land resources. In such a situation here we propose an underwater image enhancement algorithm to check and preserve the marine ecosystem. The proposed algorithm can improve the colour of the underwater image and a restoration technique is also proposed to produce the proper image without distortion. We also make use of the dual-histogram method with Rayleigh distribution to enhance the image background and colours. With the use of a multiscale fusion strategy, we could identify and enhance the complimentary merits between the local contrast-enhanced version and the global contrast-enhanced version. In the case of image restoration to improve the intensity of the background light and maintain the automatic white balance to overcome the shortage of dark channels we use an automatic white balance algorithm. Further, CLAHE and DSIHE methods are used to maintain the colour balance and get a clear image. With the proposed techniques with the contrast experiments, the algorithm has major advantages in subjective and objective evaluation indexes on the enhanced images are yield better results.
