- Abstract
An essay is presented discussing the play "The Tragedy of the Lady Jane Grey" by Nicholas Rowe. It describes how the play concerns the Nine-Day's Queen Lady Jane Grey and her fall from the English crown. It explores the timeline of the last performance of the play, which traditionally was believed to have taken place in the Covent Garden opera house in London, England in 1774. The author argues that the play continued offering performances in provincial theaters into the nineteenth-century.
