- Abstract
We present an analysis of detectability of flaws in the couplings of pumping-compressor pipes by various methods of nondestructive testing. The eddy current, magnetic particle, probe-coil magnetic field and ultrasonic testing methods were used. The excitation and reception of Rayleigh waves in the multiple-shadow method is provided by an electromagnetic-acoustic method to reduce the influence of acoustic contact quality on testing results. An indicator of the detectability of a flaw of this type is introduced. It is determined by the ratio of the value of an informative parameter measured on a sample with a defect and the value of a similar parameter characterizing a defect-free sample. The following informative parameters of the acoustic method are substantiated: "variance," "multiple detection coefficient," and the propagation velocity of Rayleigh waves. Unlike the eddy current, magnetic particle, and probe-coil magnetic field testing methods, the acoustic method provides testing of the entire coupling in a single installation of the transducer.
