- Abstract
This article emphasizes the importance of intellectual property (IP) in defense acquisition and sustainment. It highlights the need for a well-executed IP strategy to ensure weapon system readiness and cost management. The role of product support managers (PSMs) in developing a robust IP strategy and securing necessary IP rights is emphasized. The article also discusses the benefits of effective IP strategies, such as reduced cost and risk, increased flexibility, and improved compliance. It stresses the importance of considering IP for sustainment early in the program development process. The document provides guidance and resources for PSMs in managing IP and data rights to maintain DoD systems in a high state of readiness.
