- Abstract
Access to potable water is indisputably essential to life and requires understanding that it is a health-promoting human right that needs to be equitably universalized. This article aims to discuss access to water in Western Bahia from the perspective of human rights and health. Thus, indicators were analyzed, based on data from secondary information systems, in the 14 municipalities of the Regional Health Center of Barreiras, in western Bahia, whose water supply service is provided by the state. The results identified that 81.83% of the population is supplied through the Water Supply System (SAA), 12.86% through the Collective Alternative Solution (SAC), 0.16% through the Individual Alternative Solution (SAI) and 7.5% of the population did not have information recorded in 2021. The fact that 83.36% of people who are supplied only by the SAC consume untreated water stood out as a central concern, revealing a critical situation. Thus, it appears that there is no compliance with the normative compatibility of water quality, which is presented as a violation of the human right to water and health. In addition, the study showed the existence of difficulties in the control and management of collective solutions and in carrying out water quality surveillance.
