- Abstract
race elements play important roles in an organism. Therefore, in situ imaging of trace elements is of great significance. In this paper, a fast element bio-imaging method was developed based on a low-dispersion laser ablation system and inductively coupled plasma time-of-flight mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-TOFMS). Using a spot ablation mode, the images of 19 elements in a kidney section of a mouse intravenously injected with silver nanoparticles was obtained. The spatial resolution of the images was 20 μm and the imaging speed was 40 pixels per second, which is about 10 times higher than that of conventional LA-ICP-MS system. The imaging results showed that the distribution patterns of the elements in the mouse kidney were different. The developed LA-ICP-TOFMS method provides a visual and reliable means for in situ study of trace elements in an organism and is expected to be more widely used in biomedical research in the future.
