The article examines the depiction of environmental apocalypse in the films "The Birds," directed by Alfred Hitchcock and "Night of the Living Dead," directed by George A. Romero. Topics covered include the opinion that the films represent a progression in public perception of the causes of environmental apocalypse, analysis of Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" which is considered the most influential apocalyptic ecocritical texts in American history.
