- Abstract
Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, with a Europe- wide incidence of 27 - 91 / 100,000 inhabitants / year, is a regular reason for rescue service calls and is frequently observed by laypersons. In Germany, the incidence in 2021 was 72.2 / 100,000 inhabitants / year. In 42.6 % of the cases, resuscitation had been carried out by bystanders before the emergency services arrived. Spontaneous circulation was established in 40.8% of the patients, and 11.1 % were discharged alive from the hospital. This article summarises the current guidelines of the European Resuscitation Council from 2021 and additionally focuses on resuscitation using extracorporeal life support.
