- Abstract
The article reports that isolated deficiency of IgA may be induced by certain anticonvulsants. such as vaIproic acid and phenytoin. Low levels of IgA may be associated with recurrent infections, autoimmune and neoplastic diseases, atopy and neurologic disorders. Anaphylactic reactions are possible after blood transfusions in such patients. Allergic and autoimmune dermatoses were found in 24% of 142 children with IgA deficiency. Carbamazepine (CBZ) is an anticonvulsant drug related to the tricyclic antidepressant.
