- Abstract
There are many historical aspects related to the spine spinal cord lesions. We shall mention here only two historical data. About 5000 years ago, circa XVII century b.C. the Edwin Smith Papyrus was written. It contains exclusively clinical cases, not recipes, and was organized about injuries starting from head and proceeding downward through the body. The veredict about the forty eight described cases is classified in three ways: a) favorable b) uncertain c) unfavorable; meaning the last one no to treat. It has a particular interest for neurosurgery because contains the first descriptions of brain, meninges, brain surface and pulsation, cerebrospinal fluid and cranial sutures. Spinal osteoporosis described in Eclesiastés is a basic historical information.
