- Abstract
Results showed significantly higher levels of autoantibodies IgE anti-desmoglein 3 in PV with acute onset, compared to patients with chronic active PV or remittent PV. The authors postulate that self-reactive Th2 lymphocytes may play a central role in this increase in IgE levels during acute active disease, since they are potent inducers of IgE switching. There is only report of IgE in the endemic PF or fogo selvagem, where in addition to IgE anti-desmoglein 1, IgE against other antigens have been detected.5 Although data are limited, involvement of IgE in the mechanism of bullous diseases as well as the first patients treated successfully suggest that omalizumab may be an effective medication in this type of disease.
