- Abstract
The study is focused on the taranto dancing, particularly in the part of the dance called escobilla, whose most important part is the zapateado. Thew zapateado has different levels of technical difficulty and different sound nuances. In this case, the turns have been analyzed, which together with the zapateado have been achieving importance within this part of the dancing. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the percentage of use of different twists (turns, pirouettes and other twists) within the tarantos escobillas danced in professional and academic fields, establishing a comparison among them. The dancings have been analyzed through the observation sheet Aoba-TARANTO designed and validated for this type of study. A total of 47 videos about tarantos danced by professionals and students from the Dance Conservatory of Murcia have been studied. The results show that a 50% of the professional tarantos in the decade of the 80s have turns whereas the 54% of professional tarantos performed after the year 2000 have pirouettes. Thus the 80% of tarantos from the academic field recorded after the year 2000 have turns and the 40% have pirouettes. The percentage of usage of other twists is bigger in the academic field than in the professional field. We consider that the results are convenient for the students' future professional needs.
