- Abstract
Despite the expansion of gender equity, gender inequality is still real. This work is to analyze the barriers that make the glass ceiling in women's career executive in Brazil, taking into account the categories of analysis: effort invested in work; willingness to take risks; empathy and aggression to negotiate; rationality in related to gender; expression of feelings; personal life versus professional life. The theoretical framework is based on the discussion about the role of women in the labor market from the perspective of the main challenges to the progression of women towards top executive positions. The research was qualitative and we interviewed 40 men and women top executives. Results show that executive women still suffer under a significant process of subaltern insertion, prejudice and discrimination. They still face a set of barriers (glass ceiling) that still limits the rise of women to senior executive positions.
