- Abstract
The objective of this paper is analyze the consequences to considered the process of patrimonialization of tangible goods like the process of symbolic identification and the creation of identity or like a process of profitability of these goods, under the thematic of the attraction of tourists. This dilemma appeared in the villagers in the city of Zacatecas-Guadalupe about their historic center, declared cultural heritage of humanity in 1993 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Semi structured depth interviews were apply to the villagers of the city Zacatecas-Guadalupe about the importance of their historic center. in this paper does not have the arguments to determine whether the touristic project has generated the enough economic resources to protect the buildings, however, if so, the investment of economic resources in the protection of built heritage and the strategies to conservation, are being directed to keep the untouchables buildings, distancing them to the local people and saving them for the enjoyment and esthetics appreciation of the visitors and tourists. This situation has generated that the value of heritage buildings, it's in second term for the people from Zacatecas; the main value that the local people have found is the economic. The results of the research refer that residents of this city considered that the cultural heritage is a way to attract tourists, more than a manifestation of their identity and symbolic representation. However, is not a linear process and complete, in other way, the research identified a graduation where a proportion, almost inexistent residents, considered that the cultural heritage is a process of symbolic representation and creating identity; being a majority who identify it like a center of attraction of tourists, who are seen as generators of economic wealth.
