- Abstract
The article discusses the different aspects of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (MHPAEA) enacted by the Congress to address issue concerning insurance discrimination against individuals with mental illness in the U.S. It examines the different goals and failures of the nation's first law aimed at parity in the coverage of mentally illness which is called Mental Health Parity Act of 1996 (MHPA). It also explores the difference between the MHPA and the MHPAEA, and offers a comparison of the MHPAEA and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP).
