- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between cartography and the emergence of the Switzerland between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. It mentions reprinting and distribution of Aegidius Tschudi's map in the eighteenth century illustrates a shift from territory as symbolic to territory as a constitutive part of rational thought in the Swiss Enlightenment. It also mentions map portrays Swiss territory through the bureaucratic mechanisms of the modern state.
