- Abstract
The article reports on the challenges that young girls in low income countries face when beginning menstruation due to a lack of adequate water and sanitation facilities and social taboos which prevent discussions about menstruation. In the article the author offers her opinions on the need for research, resources and collaboration among various social and professional disciplines which will assist young girls in gaining access to needed water and sanitation and help eliminate taboos.
