- Title
Does their ethical justification disappear if they were not previously failing schools?
- Authors
Blaire, Eric
- Abstract
The article discusses the origins of the new Academies and whether they met their expectations. It explores whether replacement of failing school with academies still provides justification for making successful schools into academies. It argues that sponsored academies have ethical basis, while converted academies may and generally do not have ethical basis, instead reflect the political desire for privatisation of education. Topics include the problems with managerialism and morality, the general certificate of secondary education (GCSE), and the British Office for Standards in Education (OfSTED) policy.
