- Title
GIFT VERSUS COMPENSATION: IS THERE INTENT TO DECEIVE?
- Authors
Rosenbaum, Allan S.; Crosser, Rick L.
- Abstract
This academic case (and accompanying Teaching Notes) is based upon a true court case in which a CPA/Financial Planner potentially deceived an elderly client. The CPA was attempting to minimize his income tax liability. The facts suggest a clever and creative approach to tax planning and tax minimization. The CPA requested that the client note that payments for financial services be characterized as gifts. Could problems be lurking within the processes?
