- Title
Nanofluidics: Silicon for the perfect membrane.
- Authors
van den Berg, Albert; Wessling, Matthias
- Abstract
The article reports on the newly developed ultra-thin silicon membranes by Striemer and colleagues. An overview of the manufacturing technology, the important features and the usefulness of these nanopore membranes in the separation of blood proteins in an artificial kidney function, is presented. The advantage of being integrated into "labs-on-a-chip" microfluidics systems, used in medical diagnostics, drug discovery and chemical synthesis, is also detailed.
