- Abstract
The administration of corticosteroids before anticipated preterm birth is one of the most important therapies to improve newborn outcomes. Several studies support the effectiveness of antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) given to pregnant women before the 34th week of pregnancy, reducing respiratory distress and premature death. Betamethasone and dexamethasone are the most common and effective corticosteroids of choice. According to UpToDate, a single course of corticosteroids between 23+0 weeks and 34+6 weeks of gestation to pregnant women at risk of preterm delivery within 7 days is recommended.
