- Abstract
The objective of this research is to understand the manager-subordinate relationship in the light of the Psychodynamics of Work, in public institutions. The literature review covers the precedents and general characteristics of the New Public Management (NPM). Methodologically, qualitative research was undertaken. For data collection, we used narrative interviews with managers and subordinates, adopting the technique of analysis of sense nuclei with the help of Atlas.ti software to understand the narratives. After the transcription and categorization of the interviews emerged three themes: work relations, pleasure-suffering and recognition. From the analysis and discussion of the results it was possible to identify that the respondents present a defensive posture when raised themes associated with conflict and illness, suggesting the existence of a collective defensive strategy of denial of suffering. In addition, the recognition is treated as something implied, so that the interviewees demonstrate difficulties in dealing with the subject.
