- Abstract
The study of variability it is the main input for site specific management SSM, with which resources are optimized by reducing input costs and the negative impact on the environment. With the aim to determine the effect to MES in coffee production, during the years 2011 and 2012, an experiment management of soil fertility in coffee {Coffea arabica L.) Castillo® variety was made. In three lots have different areas {1.0, 2.0, and 3.5 ha), and they are located on three farms in the department of Quindío, Colombia. The effect of three treatments of fertilization of cherry coffee was evaluated: (i) witness without fertilization; (ii) management according to the results of the analysis of soil, using conventional sampling, and (iii) site-specific management according to homogeneous areas, obtained by spatial variability maps. None of the lots showed effect of the treatments. This response was related with one or more of the following factors: the relatively short time of evaluation, soil fertility, reserves of nutrients in the plants, and the small number of repetitions (three per treatment).
