- Abstract
The article discusses the loss of genes from the 89-kb (89K) pathogenicity island (PAI) in sporadic cases used to monitor the prevalent strains of streptococcus suis serotype 2 (SS2) in China. Topics discussed include the reported 10 recurrent cases of human S. suis infections, the revealed subsequent analyses by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis for the diverse genotypes among clinical strains and the SS2 population associated with the genetic heterogeneity.
