- Title
A Perspective on Dietary Oxalate.
- Authors
Assimos, Dean G.
- Abstract
The article talks about oxalate, a dicarboxylic acid that is a part of the most common type of kidney stone. Urinary oxalate, for a number of years, was thought to originate from endogenous oxalate synthesis that mainly occurs in the liver. However, the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (HPFS) and the Nurses' Health Study 1 (HS1) have revealed that dietary oxalate may contribute to more than 50% of the urinary oxalate pool.
