- Abstract
The article presents a case of a 56-year-old man with polycythemia secondary to metastatic colon cancer. It is stated that polycythemia is caused by the production of ectopic erythropoietin (EPO) and presents with increased hemoglobin levels, thrombosis and phlebotomy. It notes that the patient had slight erythrocytosis which resolved after colon resection but recurred when her colon cancer metastasized to the liver. It also mentions that serum EPO level declined after hepatic resection.
