- Title
Global change: China at the carbon crossroads.
- Authors
Gurney, Kevin Robert
- Abstract
The article discusses research that was conducted on the levels of carbon dioxide being produced via fossil fuels within the nation of China. Estimates show that, in late 2006, China replaced the United States as the leading global emitter of this greenhouse gas. It is assumed that a majority of these emissions derive from swift industrialization that is fuelled by coal-powered energy and cement manufacturing. The study examines changes in soils and vegetation across the nation and compared them with measurements in the atmosphere.
