- Title
Learning and memory: Flies know their way.
- Authors
Flight, Monica Hoyos
- Abstract
The article discusses research on spatial learning of flies. It references the study "Visual place learning in Drosophila melanogaster," by T. A. Ofstad, M. B. Reiser and C. S. Zuker in the June 9, 2011 issue of "Nature." The authors show that flies' neurons in the so-called ellipsoid body are involved for storing and processing spatial memories. Researchers also investigated the parts of the Drosophila brain responsible for the processing spatial memories and learning.
