- Abstract
Buffalo farming is playing an important role in milk production in India. Repeat breeding is one of the important causes of prolonged inter calving intervals and fetching losses to buffalo dairy farmers. The present study was conducted to manage repeat breeding in 48 Graded Murrah Buffaloes which were divided into 4 equal groups (n = 12) viz., Group I (administered with Inj. Streptopenicillin @ 1 g (I/U) consecutively for 3 days in a spontaneous heat and performed AI in successive heat), Group II (administered with Inj. Buserelin @ 0.01 mg (I/M) immediately after performing AI in a spontaneous heat), Group III (administered with Inj. Buserelin 0.01 mg (I/M) on days 0, 10 and 19 and Inj. Cloprostenol 250 μg (I/M) on days 7 and 17. All the animals in the group were treated with Inj. Ciprofloxacin + Tinidazole, 30 ml (I/U) for 3 days on cervical opening after first Cloprostenol administration and performed Fixed time AI after 24 hrs of third Buserelin administration (Modified Doublesynch) and Group IV (Control). The conception rate was significantly higher in Group III followed by Groups I, II and IV. In conclusion, uterine infections and delayed ovulations were important causes of repeat breeding in Graded Murrah buffaloes and can be rectified with fixed-time AI after induced ovulation and intra-uterine antibiotic therapy.
