- Abstract
Collagen is a basic protein found in all animals. It is made from type É bovine hide corium. Collagen dispersions help in biphasic separation processes. Collagen nanofibrils were used to separate the ethanol from the ethanol-water mixture. Based on the experiment, ethanol was retained by the collagen nanofibrils. The percent ethanol recovered by collagen decreased as the initial ethanol percentages increased. The comparison of after centrifugation concentrations in each phase shows the mass fraction of ethanol present in the collagen-rich phase had less variance than the aqueous phase. The relative distribution coefficient was lower for initial mixtures of higher ethanol purity.
