- Abstract
The Higher Institute of Design of the University of Habana was commissioned to redesign the 506 titles that make up the Cuban educational system at all levels of general education, from the first grade to the twelfth. Undertaking this challenge entailed a set of key strategic decisions based on an in-depth study of theoretical references, analysis of conditioning factors and determining factors of the design process that would respond to the requirements that these products must have. In addition, a singular organisation of the work process was necessary, as the books have been worked on at the same time as the editorial process is being developed and the educational content system is being perfected, so that the permanent interaction between authors, editors and designers (professionals and students) has forced a permanent rethinking of the design decisions. This article presents the general strategic decisions and the first design results.
