- Authors
Bratt, Patricia
- Abstract
This paper discusses the role of creativity and artistry within the psychoanalytic frame. The author investigates the inherent tension between flexibility and limitation when working within a modern psychoanalytic theory of technique. The author addresses herself to the structure and spontaneity required of the analyst when she is working toward an emotionally collaborative relationship with the patient. In particular, this article highlights the treatment technique of "consulting the patient" as a prime example of both creative innovation and therapeutic rigor.
