- Abstract
Tennis is a type of sport characterized by short and intermittent efforts. Evidence supports the argument that functional abilities such as strength, power, speed, and agility are necessary to compete at the highest levels. This research sought to analyze the relationship between agility and anthropometric variables (weight and height) in children belonging to a private tennis school in the province of Concepción. The study used a quantitative, descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional approach. A sample of 28 children between eight and 11 years of age was selected employing a non-probabilistic sampling technique by convenience. Weight and height were evaluated as anthropometric variables; The MAT Test (Modified Agility Test) was used to evaluate Agility. Results showed that average time obtained for agility was 9.10 ± 1.01 seconds, showing a moderate correlation with the anthropometric variables of weight (r=,189; p=,336) and height (r=-,176; p=,391). In conclusion, agility has a low correlation with the anthropometric variables studied.
