- Title
Red blood cells, transfusion-related acute lung injury, and lipids: a role for liporeduction?
- Authors
Stroncek, David F.; Klein, Harvey G.
- Abstract
The authors reflect on a study which describes the novel factors that collect during red blood cell (RBC) storage. They mention that blood transfusion and banking medicine communities have had increasing success in lessening the risk of transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRIALI) related to transfusion of plasma. They state that measures to lessen or prevent lipids may yield a better and safer component if collection of lipids during RBC storage turns out to increase TRIALI risk.
