- Authors
Howes, Geoffrey C.
- Abstract
The article discusses motivations and meanings of female violence with reference to novels of two Austrian authors, Elfriede Czurda and Lilian Faschinger. Feminist sociology, murder trilogy, social configuration and personal relations that converge in the act of killing form the main theme of Czurda's novels "Die Giftmörderinnen," and "Die Schläerin." The same theme is the base of Faschinger's novel "Magdalena Sünderin." Beautiful women with great qualities are the main characters in these novels, but presentation of female characters as murderers in all the novels is different. Czurda and Faschinger approach the common motive of murder quite differently in their novels. The therapy of murder has no happy ending in Czurda's novels as it ends with suicide and attempted suicide. Therapeutic murder challenges two aspects of crime, including the cold-blooded murder and the passionate murder. In the novels, the murders are emotionally motivated and carefully planned.
